Anyone know of a local baby sitter that could watch my 8 year old son a few nights per week? He generally is in bed by 8:30.

Have you thought of calling the Academy of McKays Mill?
We go there but when we need a sitter we just ask, plenty of people there that watch kids after work, so it is usually easy to get someone..

I think the MM webpage has a list of babysitters once you sign in.
